After 27 yrs. of service, my 4-wheel drive B6000 needs a clutch. Dealer here in Northern VA wants $800+ for the job. I realize the tractor case has to be split in order to access the clutch, but doesn't $800 seem a little high? Has anyone out there done a clutch replacement on their own? Does anyone have a shop manual that describes the process? I have the owner's manual, parts list, etc., but no repair manual. I'm sure I have all the tools needed to do this, but I would not want to start the job without some instructions. I've replaced clutches in cars, so am somewhat familiar with what has to be done. All comments, suggestions, recommendations appreciated.

I have a workshop manual for the later B6100 series and it does not look to hard. The clutch is single stage so it is not much different to a car. ....

I don't know that someone that is machanically can't change the clutch in that tractor. Make sure if you do, that the pilot bushing or bearing gets changed as well as the throwout bearing. Also make sure you have the proper equipment as far as jacks and blocking to do it so it doesn't fall over and cause damage to you or the tractor chassis. That is what I see most often when taking the this task on at home. There is little more than a good set of metric tools and the jacks and the blocking and a little common sense to do this job. I also don't think that 800 is a bad price if he is doing the pilot bearing and throw out bearing with the clutch and pressure plate. ....
